Generally speaking 2017 was a lucky and successful year for gambling, as far as we can see from New Jersey’s impressive revenue, Pennsylvania’s legalizing this industry and several other states, positively thinking about legislation too. Now let’s have a closer look at the gambling situation in the USA.

New Jersey

In 2017 the total online gambling revenue of New Jersey was higher than $200 million level. Gambling got legalized in this state in 2013 and since this year New Jersey’s profits from online gambling is moving higher and higher.

In 2017, New Jersey, together with Delaware and Nevada, joined liquidity compact of online poker, and this means that those three states are going to pool online poker players together, thus creating a huge potential for even bigger online poker revenue. Moreover, Chris Christie, New Jersey Governor, is currently struggling to legalize online sports betting in this state. At the moment this sphere is prohibited in New Jersey, as well as in many United States.

Christie is also trying to include racetracks into online gambling business.

Pennsylvania

In 2017 Pennsylvania made a very important step – it legalized online gambling. Tom Wolf, Pennsylvania’s Governor, signed this life-changing bill in November and then Pennsylvania became the fourth state which is able to offer permitted online gambling in the country.

It wasn’t easy to legalize online gambling in Pennsylvania. It was a long and difficult fight. And now many US gamblers can sigh with relief and start playing in this state. Pennsylvania hopes to get some really serious revenue from this field, because it really needs solution to its budget deficit.

Who’s Next?

What states are also thinking about legalizing online gambling? There are a lot of them – Michigan, New Hampshire and New York are among those states, which are seriously considering the possibility of legalizing online gambling within their borders in 2018. We can’t be absolutely sure here, because gambling is quite a sensitive sphere, and only the presence of the signed bill will be able to give us the answer. But we, like crowds of online gamblers, hope that those three states will be the next ones with legalized online gambling this year.
